WHERE EVERY STUDENT THRIVES

A nurturing environment that celebrates diversity, fosters creativity, and ignites a passion for learning.

Historical Background

PEB C.G. Higher Secondary Branch Sangla Hill

Founding (1913):
Established in 1913, CGHSS Sangla Hill is documented in In the Shadow of the Himalayas by Mary Jane Campbell, a missionary of the United Presbyterian Women’s Foreign Missionary Society. Miss Flora Jameson led the school from its inception and remained a pivotal figure until at least 1940.

Nationalization (1972):
The school was nationalized by the Pakistani government. The school building deteriorated, though the boarding facility for Christian girls continued under PEB management. High school classes resumed in the hostel during the early 1990s.

Denationalization (1998):
The school was returned to PEB in a dilapidated state—collapsed roofs, no functioning toilets, and low enrollment (~150 students).

Restoration Efforts:

  • 1999–2001: New boarding facility funded by Presbyterian Women (USA), inaugurated in April 2001.
  • 2005–2008: Construction of a modern school building in two phases, funded by the Dutch Oikonomos Foundation.
  • 2012: Upgraded to a higher secondary school by adding grades 11 and 12 (science and liberal arts).

Message from the Principal

At Christian Girls’ Higher Secondary School (CGHSS) Sangla Hill, we believe that education is important for the development of a nation. We are an English Medium School, which prepares students to pursue higher education. Now girls continue their studies through 12th grade with liberal arts and science. The growing needs of the students have been well-managed with modern facilities, such as science laboratories, a multi-purpose hall, a computer laboratory and library. Education is of prime importance to make the learning process easier; teachers of primary section are given special trainings to teach English language through phonics aided by a specially designed curriculum. Students engage in a variety of co- curricular activities.

Our school has earned respect and a good name in the town because of the capable teaching staff and excellent results in the state board exams. Our purpose built 16-acre campus hosts more than 100 Christian girls from remote villages who live and study together in the boarding house where all the needs of the students are fulfilled at a very reasonable cost. Recently a separate section for boys has been built where boys can continue their education till grade 10 in accordance with the policies of the education department.

We at CGHSS Sangla Hill believes that education is the only way of transforming society. In order to bring about this transformation student scholarships are greatly needed. Many of the current students belong to extremely poor families who are unable to bear their educational expenses. In order to make their journey of acquiring education easier we are seeking friends who can turn this dream into reality!

Mrs. Rizwana Kashif
Principal
Christian Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Sangla Hill.
